 (April 24, 2024) - Grand Slam Track™, the global home of professional track competition launched by four-time Olympic Champion Michael Johnson, today officially announced the full field of 96 Racers & Challengers who will compete in the Miami Slam - the second event in the league’s inaugural season. The Slam will take place at Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida, from May 2–4. 

The group of Challengers announced today is headlined by international superstars such as Isabella Whittaker, Alaysha Johnson, Freweyni Hailu, Peter Bol, Trey Cunningham, and Kendall Ellis. Signed Racers Devon Allen, Clément Ducos, Jasmine Jones, and Luis Grijalva, plus previously announced Challenger Claudia Hollingsworth, will miss the Miami Slam due to injuries. An additional Challenger has been added to each of their Race Groups as a result. The competitors collectively represent a total of 24 different countries, exemplifying Grand Slam Track™’s reach as a global league.

They’re all excited to compete in Grand Slam Track™, knowing how big the honor of being a Slam Champion is. These competitors will put on a festival of speed that I know will entertain fans around the world, just like we did in Kingston. We’re excited to kick off our first Slam on U.S. soil, and I look forward to seeing all of our fans down there in South Florida.”

Grand Slam Track™ is also excited to welcome 2020 Olympic 400m Champion Steven Gardiner as a newly-signed Racer for the remainder of the 2025 season. The Bahamian won the gold medal at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, and was the 400m World Champion at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. He was also an Olympic bronze medalist in the 4x400m relay at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games and a gold medalist in the 4x400m mixed relay at the 2017 World Relays in Nassau. Replacing Quincy Hall as a Racer this season, Gardiner will be competing as part of the Men’s Long Sprints Race Group, facing off against Matthew Hudson-Smith, Muzala Samukonga, and Jereem Richards.

The innovations to the sport and feedback from the athletes who participated makes me grateful for the opportunity to compete against the fastest men in the world on a regular basis. Grand Slam Track™’s inaugural Slam took place in Kingston, Jamaica, earlier this spring. More than $3m in prize money was won by competitors. Three Slams remain in the 2025 season, taking place in Miami, May 2–4, Philadelphia, May 30–June 1, and Los Angeles, June 27–29. Grand Slam Track™’s roster of talent includes Gabby Thomas, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Kenny Bednarek, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Alison dos Santos, Matthew Hudson-Smith, & Sasha Zhoya, all of whom were Slam Champions and took home $100,000 each from Kingston.

Born in Dallas, Texas, Michael Johnson is a Hall of Fame track and field star, universally recognized as one of the greatest sprinters of all time. He won four Olympic gold medals and eight World Championships across his career, and held world and Olympic records in both the 200m and 400m races. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Johnson became the first and only male athlete to win the Gold medal in both the 200m and 400m at the same Olympics. Since retiring from active competition, Johnson has become a serial entrepreneur and investor, as well as highly sought after performance mindset speaker and an award winning television commentator. Johnson has been a pundit for the BBC’s coverage of every Olympics Games since Athens 2004, and remains a key voice on, and advocate for the sport. Johnson was inducted into the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2004.

GRAND SLAM TRACK™ RELEASES OFFICIAL KINGSTON START LISTS WITH LANE ASSIGNMENTS

 (April 2, 2025) - Grand Slam Track™, the global home of professional track competition launched by four-time Olympic Champion Michael Johnson, today officially announced the lineup of broadcast talent for its inaugural season of competition.

“I am thrilled to unveil our first-class broadcast team for our inaugural season,” said Grand Slam Track™ Founder and Commissioner Michael Johnson. “These are individuals I know from my work within the media industry, and feel very confident these are the best people out there to tell our stories to fans around the world. We can’t wait to finally get racing, and this lineup of talent ensures Grand Slam Track™ will bring audiences along with us for our festivals of speed.”

The broadcast commentary team will be led by former world record holder and Olympic silver medalist in middle-distance events, Steve Cram. Cram brings decades of broadcasting experience with the BBC, known for his insightful commentary and deep knowledge of athletics. Cram will be joined by Carrie Tollefson and Anson Henry as analysts. Tollefson is a five-time NCAA champion and 2004 Olympian in the 1500m. She has established herself as a respected voice in distance running commentary with experience covering major marathons and track events for multiple networks. Henry, a former Canadian Olympic sprinter who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, offers viewers expert analysis of sprint events drawing from his technical knowledge of sprinting mechanics and race strategy. As a broadcaster he has covered multiple World Championships.

Radzi Chinyanganya and Taliyah Brooks will provide reporting from trackside and throughout the stadium. Chinyanganya is an experienced broadcaster known for his work with BBC Sports and their Olympic coverage. He brings energy and engaging interviewing skills to the trackside reporting role. Brooks is a former NCAA and US Olympic team heptathlon star who brings first-hand multi-event experience to her reporting. She offers unique insights into the technical aspects of various events while conducting compelling athlete interviews.

The Pre- and Post-Slam shows will be hosted by John Anderson, who will be accompanied by Matt “Centro” Centrowitz, and Sanya Richards-Ross. Anderson is a veteran sports broadcaster with extensive experience at ESPN and hosting major track events. His experienced presence guides viewers through the broadcast with expert transitions and knowledgeable commentary. Centrowitz was the Olympic gold medalist in the 1500m at the 2016 Rio Games. He provides contemporary insights into adistance racing tactics and athlete preparation from his recent competitive experience at the highest level. Richards-Ross is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and former 400m world champion. She offers elite-level analysis of sprint events with particular expertise in one-lap racing and relay dynamics and has been a fixture of NBC Sports’ track & field coverage since 2016.

Also announced today is Grand Slam Track™’s roster of in-stadium talent for Kingston: Paul Swangard, Donald Smith, Iwan Thomas, Trishana McGowan, and Tiara “Tee” Williams.

Paul Swangard has been one of the leading voices on track for more than 30 years, providing commentary across television, streaming, and in-stadium. Last summer, he covered his second consecutive Olympic Games for NBC Sports. Donald Smith is a renowned track commentator, announcer, and host, having been active in these roles since 2012. He hosts multiple development meets each year, and has been stadium announcer for a plethora of global meets, including the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and the 2024 World Relays in the Bahamas.

Thomas is a former European and Commonwealth 400m Champion, World Champion and Olympic silver medalist, and British 400-meter record holder for 25 years. He has been a regular on television screens and infield host for the last four World Athletics Championships. Trishana McGowan is a former track athlete turned award-winning sports journalist and content creator, with a platform dedicated to bringing fans exclusive behind-the-scenes access to sports in Jamaica. She has a passion for storytelling, and uncovering the moments that shape athletes, teams, and sporting events beyond the game. Tiara Williams is an entrepreneur changing the game of storytelling in track. Known for her strong relationships with athletes, she creates space for them to share their authentic stories. As a broadcaster, content creator, consultant, and social media manager, Tiara brings fresh energy and a unique vibe to everything she creates, redefining how fans connect with the sport.

Steve is one of the UK's most well known sporting individuals. As an athlete his career was forged alongside Coe and Ovett to form a period of unprecedented success in British athletics and since retiring has become one of the BBC’s most respected Presenters / Commentators. In a career spanning over three decades, since appearing as a 17 year old at the Commonwealth Games in 1978, Steve’s many achievements include six Gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and the European and World Championships. Following an incredible season in 1983 Steve was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year, one of the few athletes to have won the award, and in 1986 he was awarded an MBE. At the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles, Steve won a Silver medal in the 1500m behind Sebastian Coe. The following year he broke World records in the 1500m, 2000m and Mile, all within 19 days; the latter lasting almost 9 years. Since retiring from competitive athletics Steve has become a very successful television commentator, first with Eurosport, and then with Channel 4 before joining the BBC as the Chief Athletics Commentator. Steve has co-presented both the Summer and Winter Olympics since Sydney 2000. Most recently he provided the soundtrack for the London Olympic Games, in particular Mo Farah’s stunning 5K and 10K double gold performances. Steve has also been a regular contributor to BBC Radio 5 Live including hosting popular 606 and Sunday Sport.

Carrie was born and raised in Dawson, Minnesota where she was a 13-time State Champion: eight in track and five in cross country. Her five cross country titles established a national record for most consecutive titles, which still stands to this day. Carrie attended Villanova University, where she was a 5-time NCAA Champion and the 1998 NCAA Indoor Track Athlete of the year. She was also the first person in NCAA history to win both the 3K and 5K titles. In her post collegiate career, she was a three time national champion and after winning the 1500m trials in 2004, she represented the US in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

With her work on ESPN, NBC, and USATF.TV, she provides regular media coverage for New York Road Runners including the NYC Marathon and the NYC Half Marathon, and is also the main analyst on the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, Berlin Marathon, and has covered the Tokyo Marathon. Along with that, she works the NCAA Cross Country, Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals and was a member of the broadcast team for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Radzi is one of Britain’s most talented and experienced television presenters having started out his presenting career on the BBC’s landmark children’s show, Blue Peter. He has since gone on to be a regular face on our screens, presenting shows for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Amazon and Eurosport.
Radzi is a highly knowledgeable sports presenter, reporting across the Olympics, Paralympics, athletics, tennis, Formula E and basketball to name a few. As one of TNT’s leading presenters Radzi travelled the world filming ‘Road To Beijing’ ahead of the Winter Olympics where he reported live from China as well as hosting the channel’s Snooker coverage. He also anchored the channel’s coverage of the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Taliyah Brooks is a world-class track and field athlete specializing in the Heptathlon. In the summer of 2024, she proudly represented Team USA at the Paris Olympic Games, showcasing her talent on a global stage. With a history of top finishes such as NACAC Champion and NCAA Indoor Champion, Taliyah is a standout in her sport. Beyond athletics, Taliyah is passionate about community service and youth impact through her role at VOICEINSPORT as a VIS Mentor, and advisor for Black Girls Excellence, a local high school organization. Taliyah’s diverse talents and constant commitment to excellence make her a well-rounded and inspiring individual both on and off the track.

John Anderson joins Grand Slam Track with four decades of journalism and sports broadcasting experience. For 25 years Anderson hosted ESPN’s SportsCenter, the network’s signature news and information program, winning four Emmy awards. Anderson provided Play-by-Play commentary and analysis for track and field at the last two Olympic Games (Paris & Tokyo) for OBS, the international broadcast arm of the IOC. He also co-hosted the Opening and Closing ceremonies for those summer games. In 2022 he covered field events at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Anderson, as he has for more than a decade, continues to lead ESPN’s coverage of collegiate track and field working on all Southeastern Conference and NCAA cross country, indoor and outdoor championships. He is a 12-time host of the Bowerman Award, given annually to the most outstanding men’s and women’s athlete in college track and field. Anderson joined the faculty of the prestigious University of Missouri’s Journalism School in January of 2025. He graduated from Mizzou in 1987. He was a 4-year member of the men’s track team, competing in the high jump, and captained the squad his senior season.

Sanya Richards-Ross, four-time Olympic gold medalist, now serves as an NBC track & field analyst, a Nike brand ambassador, author, TV personality and entrepreneur. The current American Record Holder at 400 meters, Richards-Ross won individual 400m Olympic gold at the 2012 London Games and three 4x400m relay golds for Team USA in 2004, 2008, and 2012. In addition, she was a six-time world champion, earning two individual 400m titles and four as a member of winning 4x400m relay teams.

Los Angeles, CA - Four-time US Olympic Champion Michael Johnson today officially launched Grand Slam Track™, the new global home of professional track competition. This new league will usher in a new era of professional track for the global fanbase of 2.5 billion people worldwide and provide undiscovered opportunities for fan engagement, sponsorship, and elite competition for racers.

The league will host four annual Slams during the spring and summer season in four global cities. The inaugural Slam will take place in April 2025, followed by three more Slams over the summer months. Los Angeles will serve as the global home for Grand Slam Track, and host one of the Slam events. There will be one further Slam that will take place in the United States, and two in international locations. The other host cities will be announced and celebrated in their respective local markets later this summer.

Grand Slam Track is going to take our sport to new heights, and we want you to come along for the ride.”

Each year, 48 athletes will be named to the league as GST Racers. These racers are selected by the Grand Slam Track Racing Committee based on a combination of factors to include the fastest and best racers in each race group, with a focus on fierce rivalries and thrilling competitive racing. GST Racers commit to racing in all four Slams per year. They will receive an annual base compensation for racing in each Slam and are eligible for full prize money. These GST Racers will receive annual contracts, access to the GST content and data services team, inclusion in the league collective, group licensing and new revenue opportunities, plus access to world class athlete support services throughout the season. GST racers are compensated under contract to race and promote the league and receive additional marketing and branding support.

The remaining 48 racers will be known as GST Challengers and will be paid a set appearance fee to compete at individual Slams. GST Challengers are chosen by the Grand Slam Track Racing Committee based on a combination of factors including recent performances, and the most intriguing athletes and matchups.

Racers and Challengers will be assigned to compete in one of the following categories, and will all race in two events during each Slam: short sprints (100m/200m), short hurdles (100H or 110H/100m), long sprints (200m/400m), long hurdles (400H/400m), short distance (800m/1500m), or long distance (3000m/5000m). All competitors’ final placement score will be determined by their combined finishing order between the two races. In the event of a tie across the two events, it will be the athlete who had the quickest combined time across the two races who will be deemed the winner. The winner of each Slam group will take home $100,000 in prize money, and the 8th place competitor will earn $10,000. Grand Slam Track will have a total of $12.6m of prize money that will be awarded across the slams each year in addition to the base compensation and appearance fees paid to racers.

The focus of Grand Slam Track is on head to head competition, not winning times. There will be no rabbits or pacing lights. Each Slam is equally as important as any other, will have its own prize purse, and will be independently scored, with points and previous finishes not carrying over to the following Slams. All racers will compete twice over the three-day event, and all Slam events will meet World Athletics regulations, with achieved marks being eligible for rankings and standards.

Racers will compete in their own sponsored kits, without traditional hip numbers or bibs. Racers and Challengers are encouraged to work with their sponsors to create customized kits, in their own desired style. Grand Slam Track has no affiliation or sponsorship agreement with any shoe company; all shoe companies are considered to be important stakeholders and partners in the promotion of our racers.

Grand Slam Track has secured more than $30 million in financial commitments from investors and strategic partners for the launch of the league. Winners Alliance, a global, athlete-centric commercial solution and Johnson’s operating partner, was the lead investor in the first fundraising close for the new venture. The investment in the league will aid in Johnson’s ultimate goal: to develop better engagement with fans by promoting track and field’s biggest stars and reaching new audiences with unique, innovative storytelling.
